Launch Your Dream Career with an Affordable Online Bachelor’s in Sports Management

After decades of increasing costs and barriers, there are encouraging signs that sports management programs are becoming more affordable. In 2024, there are options to earn an online bachelor’s degree in sports management for less than half of what it would have cost just ten years ago (adjusted for today’s prices). This is in large part due to the rise of online programs. The beauty of these online bachelors of sports management programs is that there’s no need to move across the country and live in a high priced dormitory with an expensive meal plan. And there’s a good chance you can  continue working part or full time while completing your degree at a pace that suits you. It may seem obvious why highly affordable programs make the most sense, but just in case you’re weighing options between a higher priced, in-person program and one that’s affordable and offered online, read on!

An Affordable Sports Management Degree Will Get you Where You Need To Go While Saving You Money

Your success will be determined by your hard work and achievements, not by the price tag attached to it. As long as you capitalize on the skills you learn and the connections you make, no one is concerned with how much you paid for your degree. If you put in the work, make the connections, and put every effort into making yourself the best graduate and the best job candidate you can be, you will eventually reap the benefits of your investment.

Spending Less on Your Sports Management Degree Means Minimal Debt

Think about the possibilities with the money you saved on your degree. You’ll want to hit the ground running when you graduate. You may be relocating to a new city to find work or to accept a position far from home. You’ll need a car, an apartment, and clothes to help you dress the part of a sports industry professional.

If you’re truly motivated to find success in the sports world, an online bachelor’s degree in sports may be just the start of your higher education journey. There are many certifications,  master’s programs, and even doctoral programs that you may wish to pursue as you find yourself digging deeper into the theory and practice of sports business.

With interest rates and borrowing costs reaching recent highs, the less you need to borrow for your degree, the less burdensome your repayments will be. Once you start your job search, you’ll have the flexibility to accept the best possible position, not necessarily just the first job you can get. Strategizing in your career planning is key to building a bright future in sports.

The Most Affordable Online Sports Management Degrees are Also the Most Flexible Degrees You Will Find!

Not everyone has the flexibility or the desire to move across town, across their state, or to another part of the country. The good news is that thanks to technology, you can enroll full- or part-time from anywhere with an internet connection. Expect to work as hard as any student, and to reap the reward of a bright future in sports. Whether you complete courses in person or online, your degree will pay off. In fact, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics finds significant financial benefits to earning bachelor’s degrees that last your entire career.

If you’re feeling intimidated by the cost of a sports degree or the prospect carrying student loan debt well into your 40’s, don’t despair! There are low cost options that you can and should be considering. We spoke with Dr. Claudia Benevides-Ambs, who is the program coordinator and a professor at Arkansas State University’s Sport Management Department. She explains,

“There is a student loan crisis that is very serious. I don’t advise my students to take loans. I know that they do, but I would rather sit down and map out a plan with them to say, “Listen, there is a job at Starbucks. Let’s map out your classes so that you can work at Starbucks and come over here and get you this scholarship and this scholarship.” I will sit down with them and help them go to school like I did without going into significant debt. I want to help them do that.
…And I include activities in my classes like searching for relevant scholarships so that they can gain experience because at some point in their career as a sports manager, they’re going to have to go find funds. So a project like this is applicable and it is transferable. So my goal is to like to help them go to school debt free if I can. I encourage them to check those timelines, check those budgets, check those goals, and make sure that your course work does align with that work.”

Dr. Claudia Benevides-Ambs, Arkansas State University

Most Affordable Online Sports Management Degree FAQs

Are online bachelor’s degrees cheaper than on-campus programs?

At first glance, you’ll often find that fully online bachelor’s degrees carry about the same tuition and fees as in-person or hybrid programs. Often there will be a technology fee added to online programs to cover the cost of the software used to facilitate the class. However, when you consider that you need not incur any costs for moving into a dorm or an apartment near campus, you won’t necessarily need a car, gas money, or a bus pass to get to class, and you can skip the expensive student meal plan, things start to look a lot better. If your schedule allows you to work part- or full time or to manage some of your own childcare, the savings can be considerable. On top of what you save, remember that you will borrow less and therefore pay less interest. There are many wonderful things about being a fulltime student living on campus, but for those of us who live in the real world and have responsibilities that can’t be ignored or postponed, online programs are a truly game changing development.

Are Affordable Online Sports Management Degrees Worth It?

Yes, without a doubt! For students who dream of having a successful career in sports – and for those who are comfortable with the 100% online format – an online sport management bachelor’s degree is the way to go! Many reputable institutions now offer online sport management degree programs, and the cost for these degrees is getting lower each year. Considering that online affordable programs provide the same comprehensive curriculum as on-campus programs – while also allowing students to work and balance their personal commitments – they are absolutely worth it.
