Minnesota fans are diehard, and they have a lot to cheer for. The state has a professional baseball, football, basketball, soccer, and hockey team at the highest tier. On top of that there are exciting college sports teams and rivalries, and the Minneapolis/St. Paul market is one that leagues commonly keep in mind for expansion teams. Minnesota with its cold winters has led to the popularity of sports like bandy (similar to ice hockey, but played with a flat stick and a ball and with more players) to take off.
We spoke to Steve Ross at Concordia University and he highlighted that there are “8 Professional sport teams within a 15 mile radius (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, MLB, WNBA, National Women’s Hockey League, American Ultimate Disc League). Along with PGA events, minor league sports, and a vibrant recreational sport community.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, those employed in the Arts, Design, Entertainment, Sports, and Media field earn almost $58,000 annually. Also, there are four major professional, top-tier sports teams, as well as a number of successful and well-funded college sports programs.

The Minnesota Twins, originally the Washington Senators, have been in Minnesota since 1961. The twins have 3 World Series Titles (including the Senators’ appearance in 1924). They have had some really impressive players in recent years like Kirby Puckett, Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, and Johan Santana.
