Professor John Grady

Professor John Grady earned a Law degree and a PhD in Sport Management from Florida State University before beginning his career in academia at the University of South Carolina. Currently, he teaches courses in business law and risk management, sport law, and risk and security management. He is the author of a popular sport law textbook Law in Sport: Concepts and Cases – the 5th edition will be published in May 2022. Professor Grady's research focuses on the legal aspects of the business of sport, including intellectual property protection in professional and collegiate sports. He also focuses on the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in entertainment venues and ambush marketing and sponsorship protection at mega sport events. He is the principal investigator on a funded research study investigating the risk perceptions of international venue managers in accommodating patrons with disabilities. Professor Grady's work has been published in outlets including Sport Marketing Quarterly, the Journal of Sport Management, the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, , Sport Management Review, and the Entertainment and Sports Lawyer. He serves on the editorial review board for the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport and is the Editor of the "Sport Marketing and the Law" section of Sport Marketing Quarterly. He is president-elect of the Sport and Recreation Law Association.
