Dr. Ceyda Mumcu
Professor Ceyda Mumcu is the Sport Management Department Chair at the University of New Haven, where she is also the Sport Management Master's Program Coordinator. She is an expert in fan behavior, marketing analytics, and sport marketing, and specifically women’s sports marketing. Dr. Mumcu played professional basketball in Turkey for eight years prior to moving to the United States to pursue her PhD. She received her Ph.D. in Sports Administration from the University of New Mexico. Professor Mumcu was the co-author of the first marketing study in sport to LGBT fans around the WNBA’s 2014 Pride campaign. The research findings for this study were presented by Dr. Mumcu and her co-author at the North American Society of Sport Management (NASSM) Conference in Denver, Colo. Since this report was presented, every major league sports league in the United States now work to engage with the LGBTQ market segment. The report was downloaded by organizations and governmental agencies in an impressive 27 countries. Professor Mumcu is an expert in data analytics, and she co-edited the first textbook on analytics in sport management. She also published two case studies which showcased the relevance of data-driven decision making and analytics in the context of sport management. Dr. Mumcu's research interests include diversity marketing in sports, media’s representation of female athletes, the business model of European sports, and the business the World Cup and the Olympic Games. She advises scores of students each year at the University of New Haven, and she has organized events with ESPN, Octagon, and the New York Yankees.
